Is AppleCare+ Right for You?
If you own just one Apple device, AppleCare+ is generally the more economical choice, despite a recent price increase. The cost varies by model, with premium devices being pricier. For instance, AppleCare+ for the iPhone 17 Pro Max costs $14 monthly or $140 annually, whereas the iPhone 17e costs $10 a month or $100 a year.
With this subscription, you receive unlimited repairs for accidental damage, 24/7 priority support, and access to service at any Apple Store or authorized repair center globally. Additional benefits depend on the specific device, including free battery replacements when the health drops to 80%. Devices like iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches offer theft and loss coverage for up to two claims annually. Some models even provide express replacement services, allowing you to borrow a device while waiting for repairs.
However, as with any insurance, service fees and deductibles apply. For example, an iPhone screen or back glass repair costs $29, while replacing a lost or stolen device costs $149. A comprehensive list of deductibles can be found via Apple’s official resources.
To enroll in AppleCare+, access the Settings on your device and go to General > AppleCare & Warranty. Alternatively, you can visit the AppleCare & Warranty page, select your device, and scan the provided QR code.
Should You Consider AppleCare One?
AppleCare One offers all the advantages of AppleCare+ but covers up to three devices under a $20 monthly fee. Depending on your devices, this option might be more affordable than purchasing AppleCare+ for each separately. At present, AppleCare One is only accessible in the US, the UK, France, Germany, and Australia.
For example, if you own an iPhone 17 Pro Max, a 13-inch iPad Pro with M4 processor, and AirPods Pro 3, individual plans would cost around $27.47 monthly. Therefore, opting for the $20 AppleCare One subscription could be a wiser choice. However, certain combinations of devices may result in costs lower than $20 when considering AppleCare+, so it’s advisable to review pricing before making a decision.
If you need to cover more than three Apple products, you can add additional devices at a cost of $6 each. Note that most devices must be four years old or newer for AppleCare One eligibility; headphones must be one year old or less. Only devices registered under your Apple account can be added.
Both AppleCare+ and AppleCare One provide coverage for any cables and power adapters included with your products. Additionally, for iPads, both plans cover accidental damage for one Apple Pencil and an Apple iPad keyboard.
