Stay Calm: Tomorrow Unveils an Exciting Playdate Update Showcase!

Panic has chosen the morning of Wednesday, September 9, 2026, to unveil its showcase for Playdate Season 3, a choice that coincides with Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone launch event set for the same day, just one hour later. Although Apple announced this schedule weeks in advance, Panic revealed its own showcase details only 23 hours before the event. This timing may be troublesome for tech and gaming journalists who will have to juggle coverage of both events, but it certainly makes for an intriguing situation.

The details of Panic’s Season 3 showcase are as follows: the Playdate Update Showcase will be live-streamed on Wednesday, September 9, at 12 PM ET, accessible via the Panic YouTube channel and their livestreaming site. Viewers can look forward to information about the games featured in Playdate Season 3, including its release date. Like previous seasons, the upcoming collection will offer a carefully curated assortment of games, which will be released weekly, bringing fresh and innovative experiences to players for over a month.

Season 2 was launched in May 2025, priced at $39 for six weeks of new game releases, introducing two titles each week. Standout games from Season 2 included Fulcrum Defender by Subset Games, Dig! Dig! Dino! by Dom2D and Fáyer, CatchaDiablos by Amano, and Shadowgate PD by Pixel Ghost. As an exciting addition, Season 2 also featured the debut of Blippo+, a quirky cable-TV simulator co-developed by YACHT, Telefantasy Studios, and Dustin Mierau. Though Blippo+ is now available on Steam, it was originally designed for Playdate. Panic reported over 15,000 purchases of Season 2.

Panic has also taken the notable step of reimbursing customers who had to pay U.S. tariff fees under an unfavorable import tax policy implemented during the Trump administration. While numerous companies have sought refunds from the government, few have committed to returning that money to the consumers who actually incurred those charges. Major corporations like Amazon, Sony, and Nintendo are currently facing class action lawsuits over these circumstances.

Panic co-founder Cabel Sasser commented in a statement, “It’s just not our money to keep and it felt really good to give it back. That’s an easy way to know you made the right decision.”

Currently, Playdate remains highly sought after and is out of stock on Panic’s website. However, it will be available for in-person purchase at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo from October 9 to 11. Since its launch in 2022, Panic has sold over 80,000 units of the beloved yellow gaming device.
