Summary
- The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 have received their final updates from Samsung.
- These devices are no longer listed on Samsung’s security update page after transitioning to a quarterly update schedule last year.
- Samsung has added its 2022 Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 to the list of devices eligible for quarterly updates, expected to remain supported until 2027.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra are currently popular in the foldable market. However, as newer models come to the forefront, older versions are starting to lose software support. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3, released in 2021, have recently received their final software updates.
This development was anticipated, as Samsung had previously committed to providing four years of Android updates and five years of security updates for these devices. With the removal of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 from the security updates page, the focus now shifts to the 2022 Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 are now on a quarterly update schedule, indicating that their final updates will likely coincide with the same timeframe next year, at which point they too will fall off the security updates list.

Samsung typically offers monthly security updates for its newer smartphones, while older models are limited to quarterly updates. Currently, all supported Samsung tablets enjoy quarterly updates, irrespective of their age. Although some devices will reach their update end sooner, Samsung has pledged combined Android and security support for seven years for flagships released post-Galaxy S24.
The conclusion of updates for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 means these devices will become increasingly vulnerable to new security threats. If you still own either model, it may be time to consider upgrading to the latest Z Fold 8 or the larger Z Fold 8 Ultra.
