Xiaomi Unveils Compact Passport-Style Foldable, Outshining the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in Width and Design

Xiaomi has made a splash at IFA 2026 with the introduction of a new foldable device, the Xiaomi Fold 18 Pro, embracing the compact foldable design similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8. Currently, the device is only available for viewing by select press and guests, with more details expected to be shared on September 7, ahead of a competitor’s upcoming phone launch.

While specific details regarding screen sizes, camera capabilities, and other key specifications remain under wraps, the device’s striking supercar red color is certainly eye-catching. Notably, Xiaomi has designed the Fold 18 with a wider aspect ratio for both the exterior and interior displays, provoking curiosity on how it stacks up against the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The camera module also features Leica branding, suggesting a high-quality photographic experience.

Moreover, Xiaomi is introducing its own custom chip, the XRING 03, dubbed the “Flagship AI SoC.” This indicates a departure from using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon or MediaTek processors.
