Netflix Launches Upgraded Mobile App in Asia and Boosts Focus on Children’s Gaming

Netflix is enhancing its offerings in the mobile and gaming sectors, as highlighted during the company’s recent showcase focused on innovation in the Asia-Pacific region.
At this event, Netflix shared its intention to broaden its updated mobile experience to more countries across Asia-Pacific and to further develop its gaming initiatives, including the rollout of a specialized children’s gaming area, dubbed Netflix Playground.
The company has been actively expanding access to its revamped mobile app. Following its introduction in Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, India, and Malaysia earlier this year, Netflix is gearing up to launch the app in South Korea and Japan in July, with plans to extend to other Asia-Pacific regions thereafter.
One of the standout features of the app redesign is “Clips,” which provides a response to the rising popularity of short-form video. This vertical video feed enables users to explore brief content snippets from Netflix’s extensive library, catering to moments when viewers are unable to commit to watching full-length episodes or films.
Netflix is now set to enhance this idea further by testing themed Clip collections that organize short videos according to various moods, genres, and interests. These curated collections could showcase everything from iconic moments in reality TV to behind-the-scenes clips and podcast highlights.

In addition to streaming, Netflix is making strides in the gaming arena. The company announced an expansion of Netflix Playground, the dedicated gaming hub for kids. The new content will highlight “KPop Demon Hunters,” an animated musical that has gained significant popularity and has quickly become one of Netflix’s key family offerings.
This gaming experience will launch with six mini-games, allowing fans to engage directly with characters and story elements from the animated series. The timing aligns well, as “KPop Demon Hunters” amassed over 518 million views in its initial six months, establishing it as one of Netflix’s top animated successes. The company appears keen to leverage viewer interest while providing families with more compelling reasons to engage with its platform.
Netflix Playground first launched in April across various markets, including the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., indicating the company’s strategy to scale this concept internationally.
