Today’s most intriguing smartphones allow users to enjoy robust everyday performance without sacrificing unique features. Though distinct elements enhance the overall experience, they cannot compensate for inadequate specifications.
This month, TCL launches its new P80 Series, equipped with specifications that genuinely support its standout features. The flagship model, P80 Ultra, presents hardware that competes effectively within its price category, positioning the P80 Series as a top contender for value-conscious consumers. The Pro and standard models also inherit key advantages, while the Ultra and Pro uniquely incorporate NXTPAPER technology to provide a competitive edge.

The P80 Ultra’s camera gives it a significant advantage over competitors. Its outstanding 50MP periscope telephoto lens paired with a 50MP primary camera featuring a 1/1.56-inch sensor surpasses alternatives like the Samsung A57 and Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus, which lack a dedicated telephoto lens. This setup ensures true optical image quality at both 1x and 3x magnification and extends to 6x for portrait shots. The primary camera further includes an f/1.88 aperture, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), and Dual Native ISO for clearer imagery in various lighting conditions.
Regarding display technology, the 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED Sunlight Display boasts 447 pixels per inch, providing approximately 16% more clarity than Samsung A57’s 385 PPI display. With a peak brightness of 3,200 nits, it far outshines the A57’s maximum of 1,900 nits. Additional features like a 120Hz refresh rate, full DCI-P3 color gamut, and minimized side bezels contribute to an exceptional display experience.
The P80 Ultra’s sleek and lightweight design collaborates with renowned materials expert Chris Lefteri, optimizing colors and tactile experience through extensive consumer feedback from various cities. Available color options include Sunlit Gold, Midnight Blue, and Burgundy.
In terms of performance, the device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Elite built on a 4nm architecture, complemented by 8GB of RAM, expandable to 16GB, and up to 512GB of storage. A robust 5,800mAh battery coupled with 45W Super Fast Charging ensures ample daily longevity. Notably, the P80 Ultra will receive up to four OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. Moreover, advanced features like Google Gemini and AI Smart Translator contribute to its smart functionality.
The P80 Pro also competes in its class, boasting the same superior AMOLED Sunlight Display, while its 5,800mAh battery is larger than the Samsung A37’s 5,000mAh offering. Even the standard P80 stands strong against the Samsung A27, featuring a 1.5K display and 45W charging, easily outpacing the A27’s FHD and 25W capabilities while being 22g lighter.

While the P80 Ultra already excels with its hardware, NXTPAPER is where it truly distinguishes itself. This next-generation feature, accessible on both the P80 Ultra and P80 Pro, leverages TCL’s extensive display expertise, incorporating a Natural Soft-light System, Nano Crystal Shield Glass, and 24-hour Proactive Eye Comfort Technology.
This technology proves beneficial, with nano-etched anti-glare properties that reduce reflections in bright settings. Furthermore, the hardware-based low-blue-light and flicker-free dimming enhance the viewing experience in low light and during extended usage. Nature-inspired Light Conversion uses up to 95% circular polarization, ensuring clarity even outdoors while wearing polarized sunglasses.
The P80 Ultra features a dedicated NXTPAPER Key that transforms the phone into an e-reader mode. Paper Mode presents four styles reminiscent of paper, while Max Ink Mode offers a distraction-free black-and-white experience. This innovation is a significant advancement for users who frequently read articles, documents, or e-books on a mobile device.
NXTPAPER represents a decade of technological development, marking the first smartphone to combine this feature with an AMOLED display.
Certainly, users do not have to compromise on core features to use it. The P80 Series stands out not just for its hardware but also for a display experience that sets it apart from the competition, cementing its position as one of the best-value options available.
