The major US telecom carriers now seem to merge into a unified identity in the consumer’s eyes, yet there was a time when they stood out distinctly, primarily through their marketing strategies. T-Mobile captured attention with its striking magenta color and its charismatic former CEO, John Legere, who actively promoted the “un-carrier” concept. However, since Legere’s departure in 2020, T-Mobile has reversed many of his policies. We turned to our audience to ask: Is T-Mobile still a viable option in 2026?

From 1,423 participants, 53% responded negatively, expressing doubt about T-Mobile’s current value.

Many concerns stem from Legere’s exit, as one user noted:

Unfortunately, the Un-Carrier ethos seems to have vanished with John. I left T-Mobile just before they raised the price on my ONE Unlimited 55+, which they have since discontinued.

Aspects that diminished after Legere’s tenure include inclusive pricing structures, older plan options, and guarantees on pricing stability.

While some users like Reggie Carmichael miss Legere, they recognize that some of his positive changes still persist:

Let’s not forget how bad things were before John Legere arrived. Without him and T-Mobile, we would still be stuck with contracts that could harm your credit if you canceled. It was terrible! So, if they add a few fees now, I can accept it.

Contention remains regarding legacy plans, with some customers hesitant about being transferred to newer options. However, T-Mobile asserts that the new plans either keep pace with the old pricing or offer better value.

Legacy plan holders significantly influence the overall perception of T-Mobile, as 33% of survey respondents believe the carrier is advantageous for these customers.

Nevertheless, not all legacy plan customers are satisfied. One user recounted their experience:

I’ve been a loyal T-Mobile customer since the VoiceStream days. My three children have now all moved on from T-Mobile. My wife and I remained on the senior plan for ten years but were recently switched from our Magenta plan. I tried to reinstate my legacy plan without success and am now looking for another provider… no going back.

Despite the prevailing dissatisfaction, some T-Mobile enthusiasts still exist. A small segment, 13%, remains convinced that T-Mobile is still a worthy choice.

The incentives offered by T-Mobile help retain customers like lostrappoj:

I pay less with T-Mobile than with other carriers. I have three lines, and the perks I receive with T-Mobile aren’t available elsewhere. I get free Netflix, MLB, and discounted Apple TV. That alone makes me want to stay with T-Mobile. Plus, I’ve received complimentary phones every two years over the past two years!

While T-Mobile might not meet the expectations of a significant portion of its former fanbase, it does maintain impressive achievements such as leading the way in real 5G access and being recognized as having the “Best mobile network overall” by Ookla.
