A recent leak has revealed information about the core configuration and clock speeds for the highly anticipated Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and the Dimensity 9600 Pro.
Digital Chat Station (DCS) shared via Weibo that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro (model number SM8975) might actually be called the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Despite its somewhat convoluted name, this new flagship chip from Qualcomm appears set to exceed the 5GHz clock speed barrier previously unbroken by smartphone chipsets.
The disclosed leak specifies that this octa-core processor will be produced using TSMC’s 2nm fabrication process. It is expected to include two prime cores clocked at 5.01GHz, three performance cores at 4.03GHz, and three efficiency cores at 3.74GHz. The chipset will also integrate the Adreno 850 GPU featuring six GPU slices, according to prior information.
Alongside the Snapdragon details, DCS provided insights on the forthcoming MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro, which will similarly utilize TSMC’s 2nm technology. This octa-core processor could consist of two Canyon cores clocked at 4.55GHz, three Gelas-b performance cores at 4.35GHz, and three efficiency cores at 3.10GHz. Additionally, the chipset is expected to employ the ARM Mali G2 Ultra NX MC12 GPU.
In another development, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 also surfaced recently on Geekbench. The results showed scores of 3,434 for single-core performance and 9,334 for multi-core performance. While these figures seem underwhelming compared to the previous Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, it is important to consider that these scores originate from pre-production models, thus they should be interpreted cautiously.
The Dimensity 9600 Pro also had its Geekbench results published, revealing a single-core score of 2,653 and a multi-core score of 7,516, which also appear disappointing when compared to the Dimensity 9500. Like the Snapdragon scores, these results should also be viewed with skepticism due to the early stage of the device’s development.
Qualcomm is anticipated to officially introduce the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 at the upcoming Snapdragon Summit next month. MediaTek is also expected to announce the Dimensity 9600 Pro around the same time, following the launch pattern set by the Dimensity 9500 from the prior year.
