Polymarket Secures $300 Million Investment from Donald Trump Jr.’s Fund, Reports Indicate

Polymarket, a well-known prediction market, has secured $300 million in funding from 1789 Capital as part of a larger funding round that approaches $1 billion, according to reports from unnamed sources.
1789 Capital, which includes Donald Trump Jr. as a partner, had previously invested $200 million into the platform. The firm has been involved in backing other contentious tech initiatives, such as the Enhanced Games, known as the “steroid Olympics,” established by former tech industry professionals.
TechCrunch has sought comments from Polymarket regarding this funding.
The prediction market sector is facing heightened regulatory pressure, with several state governments aiming to impose new guidelines governing the use of these platforms by their residents. Currently, around 20 states are involved in legal actions against prediction markets concerning the sports betting options they provide.
On a federal level, efforts have been made to shield the prediction industry from state oversight. The Trump administration contended that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) should be the sole regulatory authority for the industry rather than state governments. The CFTC has taken legal action against at least nine states regarding their attempts to impose regulations on the sector.
Recently, a group of 44 attorneys general from various states sent a letter asserting that the CFTC lacks the jurisdiction to regulate sports betting on prediction platforms.
Reports from The New York Times indicate that Donald Trump Jr. participated in an event with conservative state attorneys general, where he asserted that the prediction industry already operates under “robust oversight,” and emphasized that these platforms are monitored by federal authorities rather than state officials.
