Summary:
- Google has raised the price of its 4K TV Streamer by 50%.
- The increase is attributed to rising component costs.
- Price hikes also affect select models of Nest Cameras and doorbells.
The Google TV Streamer 4K, introduced in 2024, is a versatile device designed to transform any screen, including older LCD and plasma models, into a smart TV. With 4GB of RAM, it allows for smooth navigation on the ad-heavy Google TV homepage, and it benefits from rapid updates. However, the increased RAM costs are contributing to higher manufacturing expenses, which Google is now passing along to consumers.
Google’s streaming device, previously available at a 25% discount in July, is now subject to a steep 50% price increase. The new price for the 4K TV Streamer is set at $149.99, up from $99.99. These updated prices are reflected on platforms like the Google Store and Best Buy, while Amazon and Walmart still have some units available at the old price.
Confirming the adjustment, Google issued the following statement:
Due to rising component costs, we are adjusting the U.S. pricing of select Google Nest cameras, doorbells, and the Google TV Streamer 4K, effective August 31. We remain dedicated to providing our customers with leading smart home security and ongoing feature updates.
The recently launched Google Home Speaker is not affected by this price change, although its future price stability is uncertain. It’s also unknown how long Amazon will continue offering the device at its previous $100 rate, so those interested might want to act quickly to secure one.
