Notion Mail Closes Its Doors Following Agent Acquisition

Notion, a company focused on enhancing productivity, will be discontinuing its email service, Notion Mail, effective September 22. The decision comes as the company shifts its emphasis towards its AI-driven offerings, noting a significant trend where users are relying on AI agents to manage their emails instead of using the traditional inbox.

“As our AI agents have advanced, we’ve observed that more users are delegating their email tasks to them. Currently, over 50% of Notion Mail users handle their emails without accessing their inbox at all. Therefore, we’re fully committing to utilizing agents for inbox management,” the company mentioned in a statement on X.

Notion Mail integrates with Gmail, ensuring that all emails will remain safe in users’ inboxes. However, individuals who wish to retain drafts and scheduled messages will need to export them. The company also pointed out that users can export snippets and automated labeling instructions for use in other applications, noting that Notion’s email-related AI agents will continue to operate even after the shutdown of Notion Mail.

The email product was initially teased in 2024 following Notion’s acquisition of Skiff, a startup focused on secure productivity solutions. The goal was to merge email functionalities with Notion AI, introducing features like automatic labeling, filtering, and scheduling management. The service became publicly available in April 2025 as a response to competitors such as Superhuman and Fyxer. Emerging startups like AgentMail are also aligning with Notion’s vision, aiming to develop email services tailored for AI agents.
