Meta’s Latest Eyewear Goes Camera-Free to Shed ‘Peeping Tom’ Reputation

At the recent Meta Connect event, the company launched a new pair of smart glasses that do not include a camera. Named “Ray-Ban Meta Audio,” these lightweight glasses prioritize audio experiences while eliminating the privacy concerns related to built-in cameras. Meta also introduced versions equipped with cameras along with a new accessory called the “Muse Charm.”

Weighing in at just 43 grams, these new audio-only glasses are notably lighter than their camera-equipped counterparts, which weigh between 51.5 and 53.8 grams. The Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses come with adjustable temple tips for enhanced comfort. However, it should be noted that these adjustments require professional assistance.

Available in 23 different color and lens combinations, the new glasses come in two styles: Clubmaster and Burbank. They support prescription lenses and offer up to 12 hours of listening time on a single charge, with an additional 48 hours provided by the charging case.

Pre-orders for the Ray-Ban Meta Audio begin at $349, with availability set for October 13.

In conjunction with these glasses, Meta has announced a new product called the “Muse Charm.” While specific details are limited, it is designed to interact with Meta’s Muse AI and can easily fit on a keychain for convenient portability.

According to Meta, the Muse Charm aims to provide seamless access to Muse AI through a real-time voice model. Speculation surrounds its capabilities, including a built-in camera that may allow it to respond to voice queries based on its environment. Detailed pricing information for the Muse Charm has not been disclosed, but it is anticipated to ship in December, with more information likely to come as the holiday season approaches.
