HONOR has a history of utilizing high-megapixel sensors, with its recent Magic 8 Pro featuring a 200MP telephoto lens. With the Magic 9 Pro Max, the company pushes camera technology further by introducing a 200MP ultra-night main camera.
The Magic 9 Pro Max sports a new camera layout, moving away from the prominent circular design seen in previous models to a more rectangular setup reminiscent of classic multi-lens movie cameras, purportedly allowing more internal space for a larger battery.
In terms of specs, the device features a 200MP main camera equipped with a f/1.57 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS). The second 200MP ultra-night telephoto lens offers a f/2.6 aperture, while a 50MP f/2.0 ultrawide lens rounds out the array.
The imaging pipeline also benefits from the new H1 Imaging Chip, crafted with algorithms developed in partnership with ARRI professionals.
For users wanting further flexibility, HONOR introduces G200 and G500 teleconverter options, designed to enhance zoom capabilities while using the phone’s other cameras.
The front-facing camera is notable too, featuring a 55MP square sensor that allows for versatile cropping options.

The ARRI Cinema Mode offers filmmakers precise control over their footage, including support for ARRI LogC3 and options for color grading through preset Looks and LUT imports. For more casual users, Magic Color for Video provides quick access to stylish video aesthetics.
HONOR also expands its media capture options with LiveVideo, allowing users to capture three seconds of footage before and after the shutter press.

The device’s battery technology is cutting-edge, featuring a silicon-carbon battery with a 8,800mAh capacity, supporting fast charging at 100W wired and 80W wireless.
Its display is a 6.8-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 1320×2868, safeguarded by a nano-crystal shield that promises low reflectivity. With impressive brightness levels reaching 10,000 nits peak locally (2000 nits globally), visibility should not be a concern.
The durable construction features an aluminum unibody, boasting IP68, IP69, and IP69K water and dust resistance ratings.
Launching with MagicOS 11 based on Android 17, the Magic 9 Pro Max will initially be exclusive to the Chinese market.
While it remains uncertain whether the device will reach US carriers, HONOR may unveil broader global plans in the near future. For now, this launch serves as a teaser, encouraging other manufacturers to elevate their own camera offerings.
