Dell has unveiled the 14S, a new laptop aimed at competing with the popular MacBook Neo. This model is intended to be a budget-friendly option within the mid-range market.
The 14S comes in four distinct colors, similar to the Neo, and is crafted to attract a broad audience. It features a robust battery that Dell claims can last throughout the day and into the evening. With a capacity of 61.2 Whr, this is plausible as long as the processor is efficient in terms of energy usage.
To enhance performance, the Dell 14S is equipped with a maximum Intel Core i7 processor, known for its efficiency and speed.
There are two choices for the 14-inch display: one with Full HD resolution and another with 2.8K resolution. The device can also be configured with up to 16GB of RAM, which we advise opting for if budget permits, and storage options can extend up to 1TB. Overall, this laptop appears to be a sturdy contender, weighing slightly less than the Neo at just over 2.5 pounds.
Pricing details are still pending, with Dell indicating that this information will be available closer to the launch in the fall. To effectively compete with Apple’s base model, it will need to be priced around $700.
This isn’t Dell’s only attempt this year to capture some of Apple’s market segment. The company has also refreshed the XPS 13, presenting it as another viable alternative to the MacBook Neo. We found the XPS 13 to be impressive, although we strongly suggest choosing the 16GB RAM configuration for optimal performance.
