Experience Virtual Fashion: Try On Clothes with ChatGPT’s New Feature!

With the latest model from OpenAI, users can create images of clothing and save their favorites for future reference.
OpenAI is enhancing the shopping capabilities of ChatGPT by introducing a virtual try-on feature that allows users to upload images and generate photos of themselves in different outfits. This new addition resembles a feature previously introduced by Google in its Search platform, which enabled users to see themselves in various clothing options.
To use the Virtual Try On function in ChatGPT, users can click on a clothing item within a product listing in the chat. They simply select “Try on,” then upload a selfie and a full-body shot for the AI to work with. Users are not limited to only the clothing suggested by ChatGPT; they can upload any clothing images they wish to see on themselves.
OpenAI states that this feature utilizes the new ChatGPT Images 2.5 model launched in September to generate the photographs. In addition to this virtual try-on capability, users can now also store items they admire in their Library within the application for later review. However, users should remain cautious about the images they upload, as any uploaded images can be utilized for training purposes unless users choose to opt-out.
Although OpenAI is not as expansive as major online marketplaces like Amazon, the company has previously tested transaction functionalities in ChatGPT, including a now-defunct Instant Checkout feature. They also incorporate advertisements within chats, enabling merchants to promote their goods and services. It’s clear that the introduction of new shopping features this past year illustrates OpenAI’s belief in the potential of these tools, even if the expenses associated with training and maintaining its AI are significant.
Update, October 1, 9:49 PM ET: A previous version of this report mentioned that OpenAI profited from transactions through Instant Checkout. This report has been updated to clarify that this feature is no longer active and the company does not receive a share of transaction fees.
