United Airlines to Bring Food and Essentials Right to Your Gate

United Airlines is piloting a new service at Newark Liberty International’s Terminal C.

United Airlines is introducing a new service that allows passengers to order food, medicine, and travel necessities through its app, which will then be delivered directly to their gate. Currently, the pilot program is available for selected flights either departing from or connecting through nine specific gates at Newark Liberty International’s Terminal C. Travelers using that terminal might soon receive pre-departure notifications via the United app or an email.

Customers can choose from a variety of options, including salads, sandwiches, snacks, candies, and meals for children, as well as beverages. In addition, items such as over-the-counter medicine, travel pillows, and charging cords will also be available for purchase. United will set up designated pickup shelves at each gate where passengers can collect their orders.

This initiative will serve both domestic and international flights leaving from the selected gates. United has partnered with OTG, the company responsible for managing dining and shopping at Newark’s Terminal C, for this testing phase. Plans are in place to expand the pilot to Houston later this year pending successful evaluations. If deemed effective, United intends to integrate this service into its in-flight entertainment systems, enabling transit passengers to order items before their arrival.

In addition to this new offering, United has recently introduced another feature allowing passengers to join standby lists directly through its app in the event of flight disruptions. If travelers are rebooked to a later flight, this feature will enable them to sign up for standby on up to three earlier flights, facilitating quicker rebooking as soon as seats become available.
