Galaxy S27 Ultra May Rely on Exynos Once More, Leaving Snapdragon Enthusiasts Envious
Samsung appears to be gearing up for the launch of its Galaxy S27 series, expected early next year. This new series will introduce a Pro variant in addition to the existing models, while the Galaxy S27 Ultra is set to feature a redesigned camera bump reminiscent of Apple’s iPhone 17 and 18 Pro.
Recent reports have uncovered an intriguing detail regarding the device’s specifications. According to a South Korean source, Samsung plans to offer an Exynos 2700 variant of the Galaxy S27 Ultra in selected markets. This contradicts earlier reports and expectations stating that the Ultra will exclusively utilize a Snapdragon processor. If this information holds true, it would mark the first time in five generations that an Exynos chip is included in an Ultra model since the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
As in previous years, Samsung is not abandoning the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro (or whatever its official name will be) entirely. Instead, the company is likely to adopt a dual-chip strategy, providing the Exynos 2700 for the Galaxy S27 Ultra in specific regions. Consumers in the U.S. are expected to continue receiving the Snapdragon-powered Ultra models.
This decision may be influenced by the reported capabilities of the Exynos 2700. According to internal testing, it reportedly outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 by 19% in CPU performance and offers around 10% better performance compared to its Pro counterpart. Similar performance enhancements are noted in GPU and NPU tests as well.
Additionally, the Exynos 2700 may also be available in the Galaxy S27 Pro, mirroring the strategy for the Ultra variant. There are indications that the Exynos chips could also feature in the standard Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27 Plus models in specific markets, although this development is not surprising.
