Exploring New Indie Gems: Console Peaks, Hockey Roguelites, and More

Peak

Developer: Team Peak
Publisher: Aggro Crab, Landfall?
Available on: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, already on Steam
Cost: $10

The acclaimed indie title, Peak, has made its way to consoles in 2025. This cooperative climbing adventure, a joint project by Aggro Crab and Landfall, invites players to work together to navigate ever-changing mountain terrains. The gameplay cleverly combines elements of survival and chaos, creating ample opportunities for humorous and memorable moments among friends. The addition of cross-play functionality enhances the social experience.

Originally launched on Steam for $8, Peak experienced significant success with over 23 million copies sold, partly due to an initial price drop to $5. The console edition is available for $10.

Developer Nick Kaman noted that they’ve doubled the game’s content since its launch, which justifies the increase in price. While they considered raising it again, they opted to keep it modestly priced.

Tape to Tape

Developer/Publisher: Excellent Rectangle
Platform: Steam (Windows; Steam Deck Verified; leaving early access), PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch
Cost: Generally $20, currently at a 10% discount on Steam until October 30

Tape to Tape is an innovative roguelite hockey title where players can unlock special abilities and characters to combat a team of dastardly “evil golfers” threatening Canada’s beloved sport. Players can choose from various squads with unique rules and styles, facing quirky opponents including a soccer team and humorous “farting princesses.” The game allows for local co-op support for up to 10 players, enhancing the fun with friends.

Having just transitioned from early access, the developers have enhanced the game’s audio-visual aspects, revamped the campaign, and refined the gameplay mechanics.

Mycopunk

Developer: Pigeons at Play
Publisher: Devolver Digital
Available on: Steam (Windows; leaving early access), PS5
Cost: Normally $15, currently 50% off on Steam until November 3. Also featured on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium

While I enjoyed the gameplay, I want to see how it performs in multiplayer before fully committing to it.

Cucina Stellata

Developer: Filthy Eden
Publisher: Critical Reflex
Available on: Steam (Windows; Steam Deck Verified)
Cost: Free

As Halloween approaches, those looking for a free spooky gaming experience can try Cucina Stellata, launched during the Critical Reflex Time showcase. This short psychological horror game is set in 19th-century Italy and promises eerie experiences. Although the trailer reveals little about its scary elements, it hints at engaging cooking mechanics. For those interested in supporting the developers, a $5 “supporter pack” DLC is available, which includes recipes from the game.

Grease Trap ’99

Developer/Publisher: James Muirhead
Available on: Steam (Windows)
Cost: Typically $5, with a 10% discount until November 4

I discovered Grease Trap ’99 through a Reddit post this week, and it seems to be right up my alley. This horror mystery, infused with comedy, takes place in a fish and chip shop in the Scottish Highlands, offering a familiar setting with a twist—something unusual lurks beneath the floorboards. With retro, low-poly graphics, the game promises a short but engaging experience, fully voiced in Gaelic with English subtitles available.
