Wispr Flow Unveils Innovative Granola-Inspired Meeting Note Taker

As of August 5, at 12:10 AM PT, Wispr Flow has launched its new notetaking application for Mac. This tool, akin to Granola’s offering, employs system audio to transcribe meetings without the need to participate directly. Additionally, it refines transcripts, generates actionable items, and enables AI-assisted searches throughout meeting archives. Users can view a live transcription and request AI summaries as well.

The following information reflects our original findings based on updates to Wispr Flow’s service terms.

Wispr Flow is gearing up to introduce a notetaker for meetings, as indicated by modifications to its Terms of Service.

The company has informed its users via email about updates to both their terms and privacy policies to support these new features.

Upon reviewing the new terms, it became apparent that there are additional provisions regarding meeting data and the notetaking functionality. The organization stated that the notetaker would produce transcripts, summaries, action items, and insights, noting:

“For the Notetaker, Input may also include Meeting Data, such as meeting audio, participant details, metadata, speaker labels, meeting transcripts, and any other related information processed during a meeting. Output can consist of AI-generated transcripts, summaries, action items, insights from meetings, speaker attribution, and additional meeting-related content.”

With this launch, Wispr Flow will compete with other notetaking solutions like Granola, Fireflies, Read AI, Otter, and Fathom. Co-founder Tanay Kothari has previously discussed the goal of developing an AI assistant. The introduction of a notetaker could enhance the company’s understanding of its users and automate various functions beyond mere transcription.

It remains uncertain whether Wispr Flow aims to create a notetaker similar to Granola that relies on system audio and does not retain recordings, or if they intend to implement a comprehensive meeting recording solution.

So far, Wispr Flow has secured over $81 million in funding, with its latest valuation estimated at $700 million. In May, there were reports suggesting that the company was negotiating a new funding round that could elevate its worth to $2 billion.

Wispr Flow has not yet responded to inquiries for additional information.
