While consumer laptops prioritize thinness and aesthetic features, rugged laptops focus on practicality. For instance, the Toughbook 40’s 14-inch screen can reach brightness levels of 1,200 nits and can be equipped with specialized ports essential for industrial connectivity.
Despite the rugged nature of these laptops, performance has improved significantly. Current models from manufacturers like Toughbook come equipped with Intel Core Ultra processors. For professionals dependent on resilience, a damaged laptop can lead to downtime or lost work. However, for the average consumer, investing in extreme durability often means paying a significant premium for features that may go unused. Even the mid-level Toughbook 56 starts at $3,325, highlighting the cost-benefit challenge.
