The president has indicated plans to introduce an official to oversee a new agency dedicated to artificial intelligence.
While the tech sector calls for a slowdown in AI innovation, President Donald Trump is moving forward with plans to establish an “AI Force” and appoint a “czar” to lead it. In a message on Truth Social, Trump announced that he would reveal his choice for the position soon. Although he did not provide specifics about the agency’s mission, he likened this initiative to the previously formed Space Force.
Trump expressed a commitment to fostering the growth of the AI sector, stating, “We will not in any way hinder or stifle the growth of this incredible industry. Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it as it grows!”
In addition to launching the AI Force, Trump shared a poll aimed at renaming artificial intelligence to something he deemed more sophisticated, suggesting alternatives like “extreme intelligence” or “supreme intelligence.”
This declaration starkly contrasts the recent sentiments expressed by leaders in the AI field. Just last week, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, put forth a detailed proposal advocating for a more measured approach to AI development. Following this, executives from rival firms, including OpenAI and xAI, concurred with his recommendation for a more cautious pace. Nonetheless, Trump argued that any delay in AI advancements in the U.S. could allow China to gain an advantage. He is scheduled to meet with his Chinese counterpart next week, with discussions about AI anticipated to be a significant focus.
