Tragic Plane Crash Claims Life of Ubisoft Co-Founder Claude Guillemot

Claude Guillemot, one of the founders of the French video game company Ubisoft, passed away on Friday at the age of 69.

As reported by French news sources, Guillemot lost his life in a plane accident in La Baule, a picturesque resort in France. He was one of two individuals on the aircraft, and both tragically died.

Guillemot started Ubisoft alongside his four brothers in 1986. The company has since become known for iconic video game franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Prince of Persia, and Tom Clancy, among others. The Guillemot family still oversees Ubisoft, with Guillemot’s brother Yves serving as the CEO.

In addition to his role at Ubisoft, Guillemot was the chairman of Guillemot Corp., a company that specializes in gaming and audio accessories.

Ubisoft expressed its sorrow regarding Guillemot’s passing through a statement, saying, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Claude Guillemot, co-founder of our group and chairman of Guillemot Corp., due to an accident. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this challenging time. We will refrain from making further comments at this stage.”
