OpenAI Introduces Innovative Keypad for Agent Management

The exciting new partnership with keyboard manufacturer Work Louder is now open for orders.
OpenAI has introduced its first hardware product: the Codex Micro keypad. Developed in collaboration with Work Louder, this device is designed specifically to facilitate interaction with OpenAI’s Codex coding feature. Following months of speculation, the Codex Micro can now be ordered for $230, preceding the expected launch of a smart speaker designed by Jony Ive later this year.
Those familiar with Work Louder’s previous creations, such as the Creator Micro 2 or the Framer Micro, will recognize the high-quality design of the Codex Micro. This keypad includes six frosted keys illuminated with LED indicators to monitor the status of Codex agents, alongside additional customizable keys for common functions like accepting or declining code, creating branches, or enabling voice input. There’s also a dial for adjusting Codex’s reasoning levels and a joystick for navigating different workflows. The device is designed for personalization, offering extra keycaps for custom controls.
Recently, OpenAI transformed its Codex application into a comprehensive “super app” that integrates standard ChatGPT capabilities with Codex and a new productivity-focused tool known as ChatGPT Work. While the app can function without dedicated hardware, the Codex Micro is expected to enhance the user experience significantly for those who are particularly invested in the platform.
The launch of the Codex Micro appears to be free of issues, contrasting with the complications faced by OpenAI’s anticipated smart speaker, which is currently involved in a legal dispute over accusations that some employees misappropriated Apple’s trade secrets. Both employees in question previously worked for Apple.
The Codex Micro is available for purchase at a price of $230 through both OpenAI and Work Louder. However, Work Louder indicates that there is a “limited quantity” of the keypad, suggesting it may only be available while supplies last.
