Motorola Razr Wide Fold: Exclusive Peek at Its Design and Features Unveiled

In a move following Samsung’s innovations, Motorola is poised to introduce a new widescreen foldable device, the Razr Wide Fold. While Apple makes its debut in the foldable arena with the iPhone Duo, Motorola is simply evolving its already established lineup of clamshell foldables, having recently expanded into the book-style format.

The details around the Razr Wide Fold are beginning to coalesce, following previous leaks and design sketches. Recent reports unveil the physical designs and core specifications of this exciting device.

The new renders are in line with prior expectations, and the specifications suggest how it might compare to devices like the Z Fold 8 and the iPhone Duo. The design features a sturdy exterior with a significant front display that transitions into a landscape display ideal for media consumption and multitasking, with a rear camera setup resembling earlier drafts.

The Razr Wide Fold is anticipated to have a sleeker, rounder form akin to the iPhone Duo, contrasting with the sharper aesthetics of the Z Fold 8. It will likely be smaller and thicker, measuring approximately 12.6mm when folded, compared to the Z Fold 8’s 9.7mm thickness.

With its more pronounced thickness and a compact shape, the device’s weight profile may remain comparable to the Z Fold 8 and iPhone Duo. However, these physical renditions do not provide insights regarding the display functionality or how Motorola intends to utilize the additional thickness, which can be illuminated by the specification leaks.

The device is expected to flaunt a 6.92-inch OLED screen boasting a resolution of 1,280 x 2,364 pixels and an impressive refresh rate of 165Hz. The cover display reportedly measures 4.97 inches with a resolution of 1,732 x 1,140 pixels. While it may offer less screen space than its competitors, its refresh rate stands out.

Thanks to its thicker build, the Razr Wide Fold is likely to come equipped with a robust 5,000mAh dual-cell battery, surpassing the Z Fold 8’s 4,800mAh battery capacity. It may also support USB-PD wired charging and 25W Qi2 wireless charging.

The battery size, combined with the smaller displays, should ensure excellent battery life, enhanced by the efficiency of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip. This will be paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage, though other specifications have not yet been revealed. The camera capabilities, however, promise to impress.

The Razr Wide Fold may feature a primary 50MP camera alongside a 50MP ultra-wide lens, complemented by a 32MP selfie camera for both the main and cover displays. This camera configuration is poised to outperform those of both the Z Fold 8 and the iPhone Duo, at least on paper.

The device is likely to have an IP48 or IP49 rating for water and dust resistance and will support Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and run on Android 17 right out of the box.

The Motorola Razr Wide Fold is anticipated to debut in PANTONE Coriander and Dark Botanical Garden colors, with a targeted launch set for mid-December.
