Meta’s Muse Surpasses ChatGPT’s Initial Mobile Debut

Meta’s new AI application, Muse, is showing potential to become a significant success for the company, according to fresh insights from market analytics firm Apptopia. The report notes that Muse has garnered more downloads on mobile devices in its first 12 days than ChatGPT did during the same period after its launch, focusing specifically on the U.S. and Canadian markets.
Additionally, Muse has outpaced ChatGPT in terms of daily active users, as the analysis reveals.
Until now, comparing the two applications had been challenging due to their differing launch approaches. While ChatGPT debuted globally but limited to iOS, Muse is available on both iOS and Android, but only in the U.S. and Canada.
To facilitate a fair comparison, Apptopia examined data exclusively from iOS users in the U.S. and Canada for both applications within their first 12 days. In this specific data set, Muse achieved 1.8 million downloads, surpassing ChatGPT’s 1.3 million.
In total, Muse has accumulated 2.8 million installs globally within its initial 12 days. Its growth trajectory remains strong; Muse has recently ascended from the No. 2 spot to claim the No. 1 position on the U.S. App Store, surpassing ChatGPT as noted by Business Insider. Appfigures, another analytics firm, also reported that Muse had crossed the 1 million download mark at that point.
Furthermore, Apptopia’s analysis indicates that Muse has surpassed ChatGPT in terms of daily active users in the U.S. At this stage post-launch, Muse has 642,000 daily active users, compared to ChatGPT’s 231,000 from back then.
For a balanced comparison considering Muse’s presence on both iOS and Android, Apptopia focused solely on iOS data. Even with this limitation, Muse continues to lead, boasting 359,000 daily active users on iOS—well above ChatGPT’s numbers for that same interval.
Though Apptopia’s estimates cannot provide absolute figures for downloads and active users since they do not have access to Meta’s internal data, the reported statistics suggest that Muse could indeed emerge as Meta’s next flagship app.
Meta has already demonstrated effective cross-promotion techniques with the launch of Instagram’s Threads, which has attracted over 500 million users through strategic marketing efforts across its primary platforms, including Instagram and Facebook. Muse is expected to benefit similarly, particularly as it integrates within these established networks and functions in WhatsApp as well.
While Apptopia has no insight into the specifics of Meta’s promotional activities, it did find that more than 95% of Muse’s users are also users of Facebook, and 63% belong to Instagram.
Meta has yet to release any official figures concerning the initial success of Muse, despite being approached for comments on the matter.
