The concept of AI wearables has become somewhat predictable within the tech realm, leading to skepticism among consumers about such devices.
Despite this, Meta is entering the market with its own AI gadget called Muse Charm, aimed at providing users with an additional method to connect with its new personal AI assistant, Muse, which has already gained popularity.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced the device in a surprise announcement during the company’s annual Connect event. However, it is not ready for release just yet. He mentioned that his team is still in the process of finalizing the components and assured that it would be available for purchase by the holiday season in December.
The Muse assistant is represented by an endearing digital character known internally as Jolly, and it is housed within a compact totem that users can easily carry or attach to their keychains. The device features a small screen that showcases the avatar, allowing users to interact with it directly and have tasks performed on their behalf.
“We’ve condensed the entire Muse experience, including the real-time voice and avatar functionality, into a device that can be carried on a keychain and is always available,” Zuckerberg explained during the keynote. “Simply tap on the fingerprint sensor located at the corner, and you can start a conversation without the need to unlock a phone or find an app.”
Zuckerberg further stated: “For those without glasses, this will be the quickest way to engage with your Muse and to see what’s happening around you.”
With its unique offering, the device has a playful, Tamagotchi-like essence—a lightweight and personable gadget designed to keep users connected to Meta’s services. It also represents a relatively low-risk approach for the social media giant to explore AI wearables while finding new ways to introduce its AI assistant to a wider audience.
