Meta Unveils a Versatile AI Model Compatible with Mac Devices

Meta has introduced what it describes as the most advanced open-weight model available in the U.S., called Muse Spark Open. This new model has been specifically tailored for compatibility with Macs.
Muse Spark Open utilizes an impressive 816 billion parameters alongside a 1 million token context window, and it claims to outperform other widely used open-weight models, as suggested by Meta’s evaluation results released on Thursday.
Designed to be multimodal, Muse Spark Open excels at tackling complex coding challenges and agentic tasks. It can be run locally on Apple computers; however, users will need substantial computing power, requiring a minimum of 1 terabyte of RAM. The model is optimized for use on the Mac Studio featuring the M5 Ultra chip.
If your hardware meets these specifications, Muse Spark Open could serve as a powerful tool for coding and various desktop activities. Meta has integrated the model with Muse Code, its AI coding terminal, using it in various workflows, such as resolving issues in a Mastodon client by implementing bug fixes and new features.
Additionally, the model has been utilized in running DaVinci Resolve, a professional video editing application, demonstrating its ability to analyze and crop video footage.
Open-weight models offer several advantages for the industry that proprietary models do not, including cost-effectiveness, transparency, and greater flexibility.
Meta has made this new model accessible through various API platforms starting now.
