Google Unveils Enhanced AI Learning Features in Search and Gemini

On Wednesday, Google unveiled a host of innovative study tools through its Search and Gemini platforms. This includes AI-generated interactive visuals, 3D simulations, a dedicated student hub, personalized practice quizzes, and more.
These new educational features represent Google’s ongoing mission to position Gemini as the go-to AI assistant for students. This move places it in direct competition with organizations like OpenAI and educational startups which are developing their own study aids.
As part of the Search updates, students can now create custom tools and simulations to aid their understanding of intricate subjects. For instance, a student interested in pH levels can search for “pH scale” and receive an interactive visual in an AI Overview to clarify the fundamentals.
Students can further delve into specifics by asking follow-up questions, such as requesting to plot citrus fruits on the pH scale. AI Mode will then produce a tailored interactive experience based on the inquiry.
Users can also access customized quizzes right from the Search engine across various subjects, including science, mathematics, humanities, and languages. For instance, one might prompt, “Generate a quiz covering commonly tested vocab for SAT prep,” and receive an interactive quiz in response.
In the near future, Lens in Search will introduce an interactive learning feature to assist students with problem-solving. Users will be able to utilize the “Lens” camera icon within the Google app to photograph their work and receive AI explanations, identify errors, and get help as needed.
Additionally, students can now request that Search generate study materials based on uploaded documents like PDFs and slides. For instance, they may upload images of their handwritten notes alongside lecture slides to create a condensed overview of important concepts.

As part of Gemini’s new enhancements, Google is introducing a feature that allows students to initiate multi-step research reports within Gemini Live, enabling conversational discussions around the findings.
Users will have the option to task Gemini with researching a topic and can then continue with other activities while it processes the request. They will receive a notification once the report is finished, allowing for further discussion or follow-up questions via voice input.
Moreover, Google shared that Gemini is now capable of creating functional 3D simulations to enhance user comprehension of various subjects. Responses will include tailored tables, grids, and simulations. For instance, entering a prompt like, “demonstrate DNA structure in 3D” will allow users to interact with a 3D model of DNA, complete with rotation and zoom functionalities.
In addition, Google is establishing a dedicated hub within the Gemini app to consolidate its educational tools. This hub will enable users to create study notebooks, formulate flashcards, take quizzes, and more all in one location.
