Microsoft Proposes Buyout Packages to Approximately 60,000 Workers, According to Sources

Microsoft is reportedly extending buyout offers to approximately 60,000 employees as part of its strategy to reduce expenses and reorganize its workforce in alignment with artificial intelligence initiatives.
The buyout eligibility includes employees at the vice president level and lower from specific departments across the U.S., Canada, India, and the U.K. However, certain roles, particularly those in data centers and sales and marketing, are not included in this initiative.
On Monday, Microsoft’s Chief People Officer, Amy Coleman, communicated with staff regarding the buyout options.
In her message, Coleman stated, “The Voluntary Exit Offer is a crucial element of how we are adapting to change: providing greater flexibility and opportunities for employees to define their next steps.” She added that the initiative grants eligible employees contemplating a departure the option to do so with support.
Those who opt for the buyout will receive benefits akin to those provided in a traditional severance package. Earlier this year, the company had similar offers for retirement-eligible employees, resulting in over 30% of approximately 8,750 qualified individuals accepting the buyout.
At this time, Microsoft has not responded to inquiries regarding the buyout program.
