When reviewing your message history, it’s not just the texts and images that matter— the metadata plays a significant role, revealing information like the timestamps, encryption status, and whether messages have been delivered. If you recently opened Google Messages and noticed changes in how this information is displayed, there’s no need for concern; Google is simply modifying the way you access it.
Previously, tapping on a message would immediately show its metadata beneath— timestamp, delivery status, encryption details, all of it. Recent reports indicate that a refreshed design is gradually being introduced, which enhances how this information is displayed.
The significant update involves a swipe gesture; users can now swipe left within a chat to view timestamps and encryption details. Importantly, this feature displays information for all messages simultaneously, eliminating the need to tap each one separately.
Alternatively, swiping right allows users to reply directly. Tapping messages will still function but will now only reveal the delivery status.
This new interface has been observed in version 20260910_03_RC02 of Messages. However, it remains unclear if this specific version is mandatory to access the new features. If you haven’t noticed the changes yet, ensure that your app is fully updated.
