Enduring a Weekend of 2FA Service Swaps: A Challenge I’d Wish on No One

There are certain tech-related tasks I would gladly skip forever. For instance, I’ve been delaying the cleaning of dust from my computer and reorganizing my tech storage, which currently relies on broken containers and tangled cables. However, nothing quite compares to the challenge of transitioning to a new two-factor authentication (2FA) service that I faced last month.

Two-factor authentication, also known as multi-factor authentication (MFA), is a crucial component of my online security approach. It generates a time-sensitive one-time code (TOTP) that acts as an additional layer of identity verification during the login process. If a service has 2FA activated and you lack the corresponding 2FA code, your login attempt will be unsuccessful. While passwords serve as the primary locks on my accounts, 2FA codes act as additional barriers. They ensure that even if unauthorized individuals obtain my passwords, they cannot access my various personal accounts.
