TP-Link Partners with US Manufacturers to Develop Wi-Fi 8 Routers Despite FCC Restrictions
Highlights
- TP-Link has entered a partnership with Key Tronic to produce Wi-Fi 8 routers in Mississippi.
- Manufacturing is scheduled to start early next year.
- TP-Link is actively pursuing an exemption from the FCC’s ban while facing ongoing lawsuits.
The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) ban on foreign-made routers, implemented earlier this year, continues to create challenges for many companies in the industry. While particular manufacturers have secured exemptions from the ban, TP-Link, one of the leading players, has not been granted such a relief. In response, TP-Link appears to have identified a strategy to maintain its router sales in the U.S. market.
The company has officially announced a collaboration with Key Tronic Corporation, a technology manufacturing firm, to assemble its routers domestically. The production of the new Wi-Fi 8 routers is slated to commence in Mississippi as early as next year.
