Quick Summary
- Owners of the Lenovo Smart Clock Essential experienced the disappearance of weather updates during August and September.
- Recently, users have started noticing the return of weather information.
Adjusting to changes in smart home technology can be challenging. While new features are often welcomed, there are instances when manufacturers opt to discontinue support for older products, disabling essential cloud components and rendering them obsolete. Even when functionality doesn’t break completely, it can sometimes disappear unexpectedly — as was the case with the Lenovo Smart Clock Essential over the past month. Fortunately, there’s some positive news to share.
Lenovo’s Smart Clocks offer a simpler approach compared to comprehensive smart displays like the Nest Hub, with the Lenovo Smart Clock Essential mainly designed to show time and weather. However, during the summer months, users began to notice the weather information was no longer displaying, leaving only the time visible.
Despite reaching out to Lenovo for clarification about the problem, there was no response regarding the cause or any potential solutions. Recently, however, users have begun reporting that their weather updates have reappeared.
A user named ignacy.drab shared that their weather feature returned overnight, and discussions in various online forums indicate that multiple users saw similar restorations within the last day.
While it would be helpful to understand what caused these issues, we are just relieved to see that the Smart Clock Essential is back to showing weather updates. Now, if only Lenovo would also restore light control features for its other Smart Clock models.
