Meta Aims to Transform Your Next Device with Muse Magic

Meta has unveiled Muse Gadgets, an exciting open-source initiative that allows developers to create custom hardware compatible with its personal AI agent, Muse, which assists with travel bookings, form-filling, and shopping.

This announcement came on Friday, showcasing how developers can connect their own devices to Muse. Meta is providing the necessary open-source firmware and a Linux software development kit (SDK) to facilitate this creative endeavor, alongside a handful of project suggestions intended to inspire users. Ideas include integrating a color e-ink display with Muse or installing it on a stick for HDMI connections to televisions.

The possibilities seem almost limitless. Users can utilize affordable hobbyist computers such as Raspberry Pi or standard ESP32 boards to marry Muse with various hardware components, from displays and buttons to sensors and actuators, as indicated by Meta.

To further assist developers, Meta has also launched a Discord channel dedicated to support and discussion.

Meta has already put its own code to the test. Nat Friedman, the product lead at Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, shared details about a device called Muse Home Link. This USB-C powered gadget enables communication between Muse and smart home devices, including speakers and televisions.

The company has produced 5,000 units of Home Link, which are being distributed for free to Muse subscribers while supplies last, according to Friedman. Given the strong interest in his announcement—which garnered nearly 30,000 views within hours—it’s likely these free devices will go quickly. Friedman mentioned that Home Link would be ready for delivery in the coming weeks.

While Muse Gadgets may appeal to a niche audience, it aligns perfectly with Meta’s broader strategy to evolve Muse beyond a simple chatbot. The company aims to attract not just average consumers but also small businesses and larger enterprises.

Earlier this week, Meta rolled out Muse for Small Business, which offers a free version with usage limits, integrating Muse with platforms like Shopify, Dropbox, and Slack. Additionally, Meta has established a new business unit, the Meta Enterprise Platform, focused on advancing its AI tools for corporate clients and businesses.
