Nintendo of America has secured a $4.5 million judgment in a lawsuit against an individual accused of distributing pirated Nintendo Switch games. The lawsuit was directed at James Williams, who is known online as Archbox and reportedly served as a moderator for the Reddit community r/SwitchPirates. Although the subreddit is still active, reports indicate that Williams is no longer listed as a moderator.
In the lawsuit, which was initiated in 2024, Nintendo contended that Williams was the principal figure behind multiple “Pirate Shops.” Nintendo’s extensive legal team had less to argue in this instance since Williams did not respond to the court summons, resulting in a default judgment in favor of the gaming giant. The court has mandated Williams to “immediately cease access to all online shops” he manages, which provided substantial libraries of pirated Nintendo Switch games for users to download.
