Lorde Critiques Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses as ‘Unattractive’

Lorde performed at the Real Cool Festival in Madrid on Thursday, where she took a moment during her performance to express her criticism of AI glasses. Although she did not name specific brands, her remarks seemed aimed at the festival’s sponsor, Ray-Ban, which has partnered with Meta on a line of AI smart glasses.
The artist’s comments were documented in videos circulated on social media. After expressing her gratitude to the audience for being part of “something real,” she noted the growing difficulty in discerning what is genuine. She stated, “You can’t tell if someone is wearing regular sunglasses or those weird… Can I just say, for the record, forget the glasses. Don’t buy those glasses. They’re not attractive.”
This critique comes as Meta is facing increased scrutiny regarding its smart glasses. Despite the backlash, the company is reportedly moving forward with plans to introduce a new line of “super sensing” glasses that will feature continuous recording capabilities.
Following Lorde’s performance, Blackpink’s Jennie took the stage. She is known as a Ray-Ban Meta AI ambassador and has appeared in advertising campaigns on social media and in a promotional video shown between sets at the festival.
