Superhuman Expands Its Reach with the Acquisition of the AI Authenticity Platform, GPTZero

This move might seem unusual for a company that specializes in AI writing tools.

Superhuman has revealed its acquisition of GPTZero, a company specializing in AI detection services, including tools for identifying hallucinations and plagiarism. Furthermore, GPTZero provides insights on the proportion of internet content generated by AI. Superhuman intends to integrate these capabilities into its Superhuman Go AI assistant, enhancing its existing focus on AI and authenticity. The company aims to continue prioritizing teachers and students as primary users after this acquisition. GPTZero noted that Superhuman will facilitate wider access to its tools for those engaged in writing and reading. Financial details of the acquisition have not been made public.

At first glance, this partnership might seem a bit strange. The announcement emphasized the need for the public to recognize AI-generated material, yet Superhuman actively encourages AI content creation. Its flagship product, the AI writing assistant Grammarly, includes features for detecting AI content. However, the extensive integration of AI tools within Grammarly has led to some backlash, especially after attempts to provide users with AI-generated feedback that mimicked the style of other authors, resulting in discontent from those writers.
