India’s MoEngage Envisions a Future Driven by a Million AI Marketing Agents

MoEngage, an Indian customer engagement software company, has acquired the San Francisco-based startup Aampe in a cash transaction, anticipating that AI-driven agents making personalized decisions for consumers will shape the future of marketing.
While MoEngage has not revealed the financial aspects of the acquisition, a knowledgeable source indicated that the deal was valued in the tens of millions of dollars.
Established in 2020, Aampe specializes in software that assigns a unique AI agent to each customer, enabling brands to tailor their messaging according to individual behaviors instead of relying on broad audience segments and predefined campaign guidelines. According to MoEngage’s co-founder and CEO Raviteja Dodda, Aampe has attracted over 30 clients globally and experienced a remarkable 150% growth in annual recurring revenue in the past year.
Dodda expressed to TechCrunch that this acquisition would strategically position MoEngage to attract customers from competing marketing platforms like Salesforce and Adobe.
“A significant portion of our growth stems from enterprise clients transitioning from systems like Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Adobe Experience Cloud,” stated Dodda.
Recently, MoEngage secured several multi-million-dollar contracts with companies that migrated from Salesforce, and Dodda is optimistic that the acquisition of Aampe will facilitate the capture of more clients in this segment.
This acquisition occurs amidst a competitive race among software companies to enhance AI integration into enterprise applications. The focus is shifting from merely generating content or supporting employees to leveraging agents that can make autonomous marketing decisions, such as identifying customer targets, crafting messages, and determining optimal sending times.
Aampe’s technology has been adopted by brands like Swiggy, Grab, and Taxfix, some of which are also utilizing MoEngage’s customer engagement platform.
This move follows MoEngage’s recent funding round, where it raised $280 million through various transactions. With the acquisition, around 20 employees from Aampe will join MoEngage, increasing the company’s workforce to approximately 820 individuals.
Founded in 2020, Aampe has raised about $28 million across three funding rounds and is backed by investors such as Peak XV Partners, Z47, and Theory Ventures.
