2027 Chevy Traverse High Country: Where Rugged Luxury Meets Smart Safety Technology

Chevrolet has enhanced the High Country trim since its debut with the 2014 Silverado, introducing elements of rugged luxury such as chrome detailing and saddle-brown leather. This premium variant has since been incorporated into several models, including the Tahoe, Suburban, Traverse, and Silverado HD. The latest iteration of the High Country branding features what many consider its most significant redesign, launching first on an SUV rather than a truck.

The all-new 2027 Chevy Traverse High Country is the first model to showcase this revamped design, with the next-generation 2027 Silverado 1500 set to follow. Phil Zak, Chevrolet’s global executive director of exterior design, noted that High Country models are essential to Chevrolet’s design vision, representing a “premium expression” across the brand’s lineup.

Zak emphasized the intent behind the redesign was to elevate the already luxurious High Country trim to a state that feels “more premium, modern, athletic, and aspirational,” all while remaining aligned with Chevrolet’s foundational values. In support of its updated looks, the 2027 Traverse will also feature advanced camera technology, which allows parents to monitor their children during drives.

Design Refresh Aligns with Growing Popularity

New Camera Technology in the Traverse High Country

Chevrolet’s choice to focus on an SUV for this redesign aligns with the strong sales performance of the Traverse. In 2025, the model achieved its highest sales figures to date and saw a 20% sales increase in the second quarter of 2026, marking its best performance for the first half of the year. In that quarter alone, Chevrolet sold 43,568 Traverse vehicles compared to 36,448 the previous year, resulting in first-half sales of 81,417—an approximate increase of 26% year-over-year.

While the Ford Explorer continues to lead in sales within the segment, the Traverse competes robustly alongside the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade, both of which have shown similar sales growth. Overall, the demand for three-row SUVs remains strong, with the midsize category experiencing a roughly 7% industry-wide growth through the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year. This timing for a refreshed High Country design allows Chevrolet to attract both new and returning buyers.

The changes to the exterior are more understated yet impactful. The 2027 Traverse High Country boasts a new badge on the front doors and liftgate, a Tritan Satin finish on the grille and headlamp accents, and striking 22-inch high-gloss black wheels complemented by machined faces. Inside, features include Jet Black seating with Natural Tan accents, authentic wood touches, and a large 17.7-inch diagonal center touchscreen.

Chevrolet is also introducing advanced camera functionalities throughout the 2027 Traverse line, including an interior camera equipped with a feature called Cabin Glance, which allows parents to see the second and third rows via the center display—particularly handy on long journeys. This interior camera comes standard with the Traverse High Country and RS trims, while also being available for the LT and Z71 models.

Additionally, a Surround Vision Recorder captures footage from the exterior cameras while the vehicle is in operation, which can be useful for scenic trips or in the event of an accident. The Security Recording feature engages automatically if the vehicle’s alarm is triggered, providing crucial footage during attempted break-ins or thefts.

The 2027 Chevy Traverse lineup will come equipped with a standard 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, producing 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque with a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 lbs. While front-wheel drive is standard, an all-wheel drive option is available across all versions, with the Z71 model exclusively offering all-wheel drive.

Those opting for the High Country can include Super Cruise, Chevrolet’s hands-free driving technology, which operates on over 600,000 miles of mapped highways in the U.S. and Canada. With an attentive driver, Super Cruise manages steering, acceleration, and braking on compatible routes using an array of sensors and mapping data, allowing for a more relaxed driving experience on lengthy trips. New users enjoy three years of complimentary Super Cruise, after which ongoing use incurs a monthly or yearly fee. However, data indicates that only a minority of GM owners continue the service post-trial.

Pricing Across Trim Levels

The 2027 Chevy Traverse will be available in four different trims: LT, Z71, RS, and High Country. The LT starts at an MSRP of $40,800, while the High Country has a starting price of $56,100. The Z71 and RS trims are priced at $49,100 and $55,800, respectively.

This new Traverse also comes with a three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, and a six-year corrosion protection guarantee. Production is set to commence in September 2026 at the Lansing Delta Township Assembly in Michigan.
