Tesla Launches Robotaxi Service in Select Areas of Miami

Tesla plans to extend its robotaxi service to additional cities, including Orlando and Tampa.

Residents of West Miami now have access to a new autonomous taxi service from Tesla. The company recently announced on social media that its robotaxi operation has been expanded to a designated area within West Miami.

This rollout mirrors earlier expansions in Dallas and Houston, where Tesla initially restricted the service to less congested regions, avoiding the busy downtown areas. Videos shared online show passengers utilizing Tesla’s robotaxi without a safety monitor, a feature that sparked controversy during the initial launch of the autonomous service in Austin, Texas. Given Tesla’s recent expansion of service throughout the Austin metro, it’s anticipated that the Miami robotaxi service will widen in scope in the near future.

The move into Miami aligns with the presence of other autonomous services in the area, including Waymo, which began its operations in the city earlier this year. Additionally, Zoox is preparing for a Miami launch after starting employee testing this year. Beyond Miami, Tesla’s broader plan includes extending its robotaxi services to various U.S. cities such as Phoenix, Las Vegas, Orlando, and Tampa, Florida.
