Which Storage Format is Ideal for Windows and Other Devices?

However, if you might connect the drive to different operating systems like Linux, Android, iOS, or macOS, NTFS is not advisable.
For broader compatibility, exFAT is the format of choice, particularly for large files exceeding 4GB. This makes it perfect for enhancing storage on Android devices, or for media files such as movies and high-definition videos. Although it lacks the intricate features of NTFS, exFAT is efficient for USB drives and basic portable solid-state drives.

Steps to Properly Format Your Storage Device on Windows
Formatting your drive is a straightforward process. Insert the USB storage device into a high-speed USB port, then open File Explorer. Click on This PC from the navigation menu on the left, right-click the drive in question, and select Format.
