Remember the Snapchat Spectacles? Unlike those basic camera-equipped sunglasses, Snap is now making its foray into augmented reality with an innovative product that has been in development for a significant time. While the company previously released AR glasses targeted at developers in 2024, this latest iteration is crafted specifically for the general public.
Snap unveiled the new Specs at the Augmented World Expo 2026, presenting exactly what one might expect — an advanced computer integrated into sleek see-through augmented reality glasses. The aesthetic is more refined and discreet compared to the earlier models of Snap’s AR eyewear.

The product concept aligns closely with what is offered by Ray-Ban Meta Display glasses, although Snap’s version features a distinct liquid crystal on silicon display, providing a 51-degree field of vision and a vibrant palette of 16 million colors.
Snap has revamped the waveguide technology to ensure clarity of the surrounding environment, minimizing distortion. The Specs also include electrochromic lenses that can transition from clear to tinted almost instantaneously, within 10 seconds. Furthermore, Snapchat reports that developers have already created numerous Lenses for these glasses, which include immersive experiences and educational applications.

Powered by two Snapdragon processors, one manages computer vision while the other is dedicated to Lenses. Snap claims that the Specs are capable of advanced hand tracking with minimal delays, achieving a motion-to-photon latency of just seven milliseconds.
The Specs provide four hours of battery life for a combination of audio and video usage, along with AI functionalities and notifications. Users can rely on the charging case to replenish the glasses up to four additional times, totaling 20 hours of usage.
Privacy concerns have also been addressed in the Specs. The glasses will prompt users before accessing sensitive data, include an LED light to indicate when recording is in progress, and emphasize on-device data processing.
In conjunction with the Specs, Snap introduced new development tools. Developers can now utilize Lens Studio along with AI tools like Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor. A new feature called “Specs Spatial Benchmark” has been introduced to aid developers in evaluating AI models in real-world scenarios.
The Specs are priced at $2,195 and are available for pre-order through Snap’s website. A refundable deposit of $200 is required for pre-order, with shipping expected to commence this fall in select regions including the US, UK, and France.
