Samsung’s Vision for Slimmer Cameras Unveiled in Galaxy S27 Ultra Leak

Summary
- Samsung is reportedly enhancing its inkjet lens technology for the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
- This advancement may lead to a slimmer camera module.
- Increased internal space provides more flexibility for future camera enhancements.
As smartphone technology advances, larger sensors and improved zoom features can contribute to bulkier camera designs. Samsung appears to have a strategy to address this challenge effectively.
Recent reports indicate that Samsung intends to extend a specialized inkjet lens printing technique to three rear camera modules on the Galaxy S27 Ultra. After initial testing on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, this expansion aims to facilitate a sleeker, high-performance camera system.
This technological breakthrough could translate to enhanced image quality and improved ease of use for consumers. According to a well-known source, contemporary smartphone cameras typically stack multiple lens elements in one module. Traditionally, manufacturers have utilized thin plastic films between these elements to counteract stray light, but this method can add unwanted thickness and may still contribute to lens flare and ghosting effects.
Samsung’s innovative approach involves employing precision inkjet technology to apply an ultra-thin layer of matte-black, light-absorbing ink directly onto the edges of the lenses, minimizing reliance on conventional films. This could diminish unwanted internal reflections, allowing for more compact camera designs in the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
The upgraded manufacturing method will target specific glass layers in the primary and telephoto zoom modules. Meanwhile, other layers are expected to maintain the traditional film structure. This new technique not only eliminates some physical components but also reduces the overall height of the camera stack, offering Samsung the opportunity to downsize the camera bump. This added space may also accommodate advanced technologies, such as a 200MP variable-aperture lens or other innovations aimed at superior dynamic range.
Even if the 3x telephoto zoom lens is discontinued, these manufacturing improvements could enable Samsung to provide outstanding imaging capabilities in a more streamlined design.
With current leaks hinting at significant modifications in the Galaxy S27, this innovative manufacturing technology could be pivotal in facilitating those upgrades.
