Summary

  • Samsung is likely to provide complimentary storage upgrades for its new Galaxy foldable devices.
  • Users might be able to upgrade from 256GB to 512GB at no charge, whereas the upgrade from 512GB to 1TB may come at a discounted rate.
  • This update follows prior reports suggesting that Samsung would limit upgrades to discounted options only.

Historically, Samsung has included free storage upgrades with its flagship Android smartphones. However, recent rumors indicated that this practice might end with the upcoming Galaxy Z8 series. Fortunately, a new source has emerged, sparking renewed optimism.

According to a report, Samsung plans to continue offering free storage upgrades for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Customers will reportedly be able to upgrade from the 256GB model to the 512GB variant without any additional cost.

Nonetheless, the outlet mentioned that customers wanting to upgrade from the 512GB to the 1TB option will need to pay half of the difference in cost. This decision may be attributed to the increasing cost gap as storage options expand. For instance, the starting price for the 256GB Galaxy Z Fold 7 was $1,999.99, while the 512GB version cost $2,199.99, and the 1TB model launched at $2,499.99. Thus, the upgrade from 256GB to 512GB costs $200, whereas the upgrade from 512GB to 1TB is $300.

This development follows an earlier report claiming that Samsung would eliminate free storage upgrades for the Fold 8 and Flip 8, instead offering only discounted upgrade options. It appears that while discounted upgrades are indeed on the table, there’s still a possibility for free upgrades on certain models.

It’s important to note that these reports originate from Korea, and Samsung’s strategy might differ across other regions like Europe, India, and the United States.
