OpenAI’s Upcoming AI Smart Speaker Anticipated Price Range: $300 to $400

New information is emerging about OpenAI’s enigmatic upcoming hardware device, previously characterized as an AI-driven smart speaker that will serve as a tangible form of ChatGPT.

According to recent reports, the device is set to have a “donut-like” shape, making it easy for users to move around their homes and position in various spots, such as on a nightstand or kitchen counter.

Sources noted that the device will be made from “high-quality metal” and feature a “premium appearance,” along with a puzzling element of “moving parts.”

The price tag may be on the higher side compared to typical smart speakers, estimated to be between $300 and $400 per unit. For reference, many of Amazon’s smart speakers are priced from $40 to $240.

In summary, it appears to be a costly AI-enabled device that resembles a donut, equipped with… moving parts? OpenAI’s foray into the smart home market makes sense, potentially deepening ChatGPT’s role in daily life. However, smart speakers have struggled to achieve profitability historically, making this endeavor challenging, especially considering the anticipated price point.

The device is being developed in collaboration with LoveFrom, a design studio established by renowned former Apple designer Jony Ive, and is expected to launch sometime in 2027.

OpenAI’s venture into hardware has not started smoothly, as Apple has launched a lawsuit alleging theft of trade secrets. OpenAI has refuted these claims.
