Summary:

  • Notion Mail will cease operations on September 22, 2026, marking the end of its AI-driven email service.
  • Users should back up their Notion Mail settings, including inbox layouts, AI labels, snippets, and notification settings prior to the closure.

Notion has announced the termination of Notion Mail, its innovative email service powered by AI. Scheduled for shutdown on September 22, 2026, this decision concludes an effort to redefine email management through Notion’s unique workflow style.

This news comes as a surprising development, especially given the enthusiastic launch of Notion Mail. The goal was to transition traditional inboxes into productivity-enhancing dashboards, allowing users to craft personalized inbox views, manage emails through filters and groups, utilize AI-generated labels, create reusable snippets, and schedule meetings—all within a cohesive app experience. This design aimed to resemble the intuitive nature of Notion rather than the conventional email interfaces.

However, the service has faced limitations that hindered its growth. A major drawback was its support for platforms; it was compatible only with Gmail and Google Workspace accounts, leaving users of Outlook, iCloud, and other services without access. In addition, it lacked Windows support for a significant portion of its operational period, preventing it from becoming a versatile cross-platform solution.

Notion’s support page currently advises users to prepare for the impending shutdown. Those who have utilized the application should export any necessary data before the service is discontinued. This includes custom inbox configurations, AI labels, snippets, and notification settings, which are exclusive to the Notion Mail account. Once the service ends, these customizations will be permanently inaccessible.

Additionally, Notion encourages users to switch back to Gmail or another email platform well ahead of the September cutoff. As Notion Mail maintained real-time synchronization with Gmail, users’ actual email messages remain securely stored in their Google accounts. The Notion-specific features built on top of Gmail will be the only elements lost, not the email content itself.
