Netflix Invests $587 Million in Ben Affleck’s AI-Driven Filmmaking Venture

In a recent regulatory submission, Netflix disclosed an expenditure of $587 million in cash for InterPositive, a company co-founded by actor and director Ben Affleck.

The acquisition was made public in March, accompanied by Affleck’s statement expressing his desire to “preserve the power of human creativity.” He emphasized that InterPositive’s AI technology assists filmmakers in enhancing their footage during post-production, especially in addressing “real-world production issues like missing shots, background alterations, or poor lighting.”

When the acquisition was announced, Netflix confirmed that the entire InterPositive team would become part of its workforce, with Affleck taking on the role of senior advisor. However, the company initially kept the financial details of the transaction under wraps. A later report from Bloomberg indicated that the total value of the deal may reach up to $600 million.

In its latest earnings update, Netflix mentioned that approximately 300 of its titles have already utilized generative AI technology.
