Mico: Microsoft’s Quirky AI Character Faces a Shake-Up in Status

The quirky corporate figure will no longer be part of Copilot Voice.

Microsoft unveiled Mico in October 2025, aiming to provide a friendly and animated identity for interactions with its Copilot AI chatbot. However, Mico’s tenure in the voice feature has already come to an end, as the company has opted to relocate this character to the Learn Live hub, where it will function as a “tutor” for users.

The support page detailing the change mentions, “Mico has aided in understanding warmth, expressiveness, and user preferences in communicating with AI. These insights will influence the future of Copilot.” The page also notes that the new setting allows for greater development opportunities for the character, stating that tutoring sessions will provide Mico with more chances to engage and instruct, reminiscent of a beloved pet being sent away to a better place.

The page emphasizes that voice interactions with Copilot will still be available, but it acknowledges that not everyone may be interested in utilizing this feature. Users who have customized Mico in the voice settings should note that these specific customizations will not be transferred to its new setting.
