A contemporary rendition of the Game Boy Advance SP will launch at $65, with special pricing for early buyers.
Anbernic is set to introduce its modern version of the Game Boy Advance SP at a price that undercuts Nintendo’s original release in 2003. The handheld device, named RG SP, was initially announced a few weeks back, but details regarding its price and release date were not provided. Now, Anbernic has confirmed that it will begin taking orders for this budget-friendly clamshell device on August 5 at 6AM ET/3AM PT, starting at $65, with opportunities for additional savings through early bird pricing.
The RG SP marks Anbernic’s third endeavor in replicating the iconic GBA SP, following the RG 35XXSP and RG 34XXSP models. It features a 3.4-inch screen that aligns well with the original GBA SP’s aspect ratio and is powered by a 3,300mAH battery, promising up to six hours of gaming. Notably, the RG SP omits the analog sticks present in the RG 34XXSP. Equipped with the H700 chip, this device is expected to support game emulation for titles up to PSP quality.
For those looking to enhance their experience, the RG SP is available with additional memory options: a model with 64GB of storage for $80 and one with 128GB for $95. A $7 discount will be available for purchases made within the first three days of its launch.
