MapQuest Introduces Feature to Locate Flock Cameras in Your Local Area

Discover the locations of outdoor surveillance cameras conveniently through the app.

MapQuest has recently gained significant attention, particularly after it opted not to label Lake Ontario as Lake America, a move that contrasts with Google Maps and Apple Maps. Additionally, the mapping service has integrated valuable features, including support for Android Auto and public transit directions.

Now, the app offers a new feature that allows users to activate a layer displaying the locations of outdoor surveillance cameras and license plate readers.

This layer highlights the positions of Flock cameras along with those from manufacturers like Motorola Solutions (Vigilant), Genetec, Axis Communications, Axon, Leonardo (ELSAG), Neology, Rekor, PlateSmart, Ubicquia, and Verkada. Positioned alongside traffic and incident viewing options, this feature is easily accessible within the app.

MapQuest unveiled this update with a brief video accompanied by Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me,” receiving high praise for its cleverness.

While it may prove challenging to circumvent these cameras during your daily travels, the layer equips users with valuable insights regarding the extensive presence of such devices in their vicinity. This information could be instrumental for community members seeking to reduce surveillance in their neighborhoods.
